A previous owner of West Down House, Captain Lockyer, formerly of the Royal Navy, built scale steam locomotives, some based on the Chesapeake - Ohio railroad. His model railway was famous locally and ran in the 1930/40's at West Down House, Bradworthy, Devon, UK. The engines could pull nine people around the garden and did so on the annual village fair days when the event was held here. Tickets were issued and some old cine film exists.
